Peer Mentor Event

Peer mentor event

On Thursday 13th April we held our 1st Peer mentor event at The National Space Centre which was attended by 50 Parents/carers & Staff.

Beginning with a buffet lunch parents and young people had the chance to network. Those that arrived early took the opportunity to go around the space centre free of charge which they really enjoyed.

The event meant that our peer mentors had the chance to present to the audience the skills they had learnt and need to be a peer mentor. We also wanted to encourage new Children to sign up to being a peer mentor to.

Quote from a peer mentor…

“I loved today it was really good to hear other people’s stories on how they cope with their visual impairment”

The event had 3 speakers with varying degrees of sight loss and they each spoke of their personal experiences this was received really positively by the Families

Quote from inspirational speaker…

The Children/young people and their families said it was a fantastic event which gave them a real hope that there shouldn’t be barriers to what they can achieve…
